Some History

Al Filo Del Agua is a project space operated by artist Adam Bateman in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Nayarit, Mexico, near Punta Mita.  For now, the gallery doesn't have exclusive representation with artists, preferring instead to operate as a space to explore curatorial ideas, cultural exchange, and community, as well as to serve as a platform for art consulting. He sees this project as part of his social practice/in the context of relational aesthetics - it is part of his art practice.

Al Filo Del Agua translates in English two ways: At the Water's Edge and The Edge of the Storm. It is named after a book by that title by Guadalajara writer Agustín Yáñez. The name was suggested by artist and friend of the gallery, Emanuel Tovar.  As it says in the English version of the book "The [title] is a farmer's phrase indicating the beginning of the rainy season or to mean imminence or the beginning of an event." In the case of the novel, the event is the beginning of the Mexican Revolution.

In addition to his own art practice, Adam Bateman operated CUAC, an award-winning and leading non-profit in Salt Lake City, Utah for 15 years and hosted more than 200 exhibitions of which many were featured in Art Forum, New York Times, Flash Art, Sculpture, etc. He has also guest-curated exhibitions in Japan, Oregon, New York City, Los Angeles, and Denver, in commercial both galleries and institutions.
